This book was nice, nice as the first one.
But somehow, I don't find something special about it. It reads fast and easy, the story is good, the characters are likeable, but still nothing overly special about the book, so nice it is.
There are two things which I don't like. First, why are the characters 15 years old. Even in YA stories the characters could be a bit older. And secondly, why are June and Day suddenly madly in love. Their love story is nice, but why are they soooo madly in love?
Well, if you like fast reading, well written, dystopian stories, with a foreseeable story line and very young characters in love and mastering every obstacle in their way, then this is the series for you.

Pretty happy with where this is going. Was less predictable than the first book and I'm genuinely not sure where it's going from here. Going straight to the final book!

I was excited to jump back into the Legend series and Prodigy by Marie Lu didn’t disappoint. With the way Legend ended, I was glad to be pulled back into the world and fell easily into June and Day’s story.

I don’t want to give a lot away, there’s a lot of conflict in this book which makes it easy to sink into and read a lot at a time. I finished the book in just over a week between work and other projects around the house.

Like Legend, Prodigy moves quickly and the conflict for the characters is real. To use an old cliched phrase, they made their beds, now they must lie in them. They’ve joined the Patriots and each have their parts to play, even though it means being separated once again.

I didn’t touch on Tess in my first review because I felt she wasn’t a character of consequence, but I will bring her up here. I hate love triangles, and even more, I hate girls who pout because they boy she likes, likes some one else. I am glad to say that the triangle doesn’t effect the story and can ignore it completely as needed.

In this book we learn that things are not always as they seem. Day and June both learn that what they’ve been taught isn’t always the truth. I’m excited to get the next book in this series and see how things move forward after the cliffhanger ending of Prodigy.

I remember when I first read legend last year. I had borrowed in from work because I was a little hesitant on the concept being too much like The Hunger Games. But what I found out was that this book had elements that were similar (really what dystopian novel doesn't), but it blew my mind. I remember reading it in one sitting because I wanted more, and thankfully Prodigy delivered on "the more" I was talking about.

Prodigy continues where Legend leaves off, with Day and June making their way to Las Vegas to talk with The Patriots, when they get a message that the Elector Primo has died and his son Anden is to take his place. This sets off a whole whack of events that set Day and June on an adventure neither of them thought possible.

I went into this book with VERY high expectations, because I loved Legend so much, and I am happy to say that it lived up to everything I wanted it to be. What I loved most about this book was the pace. It was filled with action and adventure, and the romance between Day and June was the backbone everything. Although Marie Lu has introduced the rare love SQUARE, you never lose that connection between the two, even though there are times when you seem to doubt everything. But in the end It was their need to be together that resinated with me the most. You could feel their emotions through the pages and I wanted so much for them to be together.

I will tell you right now that then end broke my heart. I had soo many feeling going through my head when I finished the book, I wanted to laugh, cry and scream all at the same time. It is this ending that makes me sad that I have to wait so long to read the next book.

Overall I absolutely loved this book. If you love dystopia, if you love romance, and if you love adventure then be sure to read this series. It will not disappoint! It encompasses everything you want in a YA novel and readers will fall in love with these characters all over again.

When I read Legend for the first time, I enjoyed it very much but was very annoyed by the childish way it was translated (into Dutch). But I did want to continue the series, so I got the other two books as well, in English that is. And I have to say I liked it more in English (though I still liked the story of Legend more). Also I am definitely going to reread Legend in English very soon.

Like with Legend, this book was written from two POV's, from June's and Day's, which was really nice because they weren't together all the time, so we got two different stories in one book. Personally, I liked reading about June a bit more than Day, but I just like June as a character more. As for the other characters, there was one other that I started to like more as I continued reading this book; Anden, the new Elector of the Republic. His character was just very surprising, and I really hope we'll see more of him in the third book.

As you all might know, I am not a fan of love triangles, and I might have groaned when I read about it in this book, especially since I've started to really ship June and Day in this book. Not even a triangle, but a sort of love square, which just made me really sad. I just hope it won't be in the third book so much, but I am just guessing it will be, and that would be such a shame!

In this book, we found out more about the Republic, the Colonies, and even some stuff about the rest of the world. I especially liked the latter, because that doesn't happen a lot in other dystopia novels. Usually, they just concentrate on America (or whatever it will be named), and they leave the rest of the world blank. In Prodigy, we learned more about what happened to the rest of the world, which I just loved!

A lot of exciting things happened in this book, and some of them made me feel really anxious, because I didn't want anyone to get hurt. Of course, people always get hurt in stories like these, and in this book particularly one character that I really really liked got hurt which just made me very sad. I did like the way the story ended, though some minor things were a bit not so nice (okay not really minor things, but shh, spoilers).

I am very excited to start Champion as soon as I can, and I will do that as soon as possible.

My opinion on Prodigy in one gif:

3.5 stars ... but I'm feeling bad about this book. I remember really liking the first book, but that is about ALL I remember. I could NOT recall the story at all. I had to look up a synopsis online. So that helped, but I had a bit of a hard time getting back into it. My bad too, the sequel was out, but my library didn't have a copy and I am just too cheap to spend $10. I know I would have enjoyed it more if I'd read it immediately after book 1.

I was listening to this. Audiobook download. I admit, sometimes I'm a bit distracted while I have the book going on. Glancing at a friend's review she raves about the "bathtub scene" and I? Ummm, there was a bathtub scene? I'm wondering how much else I missed while having this on while driving, mowing the lawn and watching my boys in their basketball games.

Another audio issue ... the names of Day and Kaede. When I read the first book, I read her name as Katie (with a little more d than t) ... in book 2, in audio, it was pronounced K-I-a-DAY. It was almost the same name, which is also an everyday word (day). It really grated on me. Like having a character named "George" and another named "Gee-George" and having it set in Georgia. Reading it (book 1) I didn't have an issue, but hearing it ... arrrrggggg!

All that aside, I am reflecting on the story and the series fondly and am planning on reading the final book in the trilogy.
