The title does not accurately represent what the book is about. It was mostly about how we should all be less dependent on our technology, mostly our phones.

Only realized I've read this before when it came to Chapter 6...

This is an old book that basically summarizes to "Unplug and imagine."

This is a quick, shallow look at what your social media and devices might be doing to your attention span, focus, and creativity. I found myself frustrated at how much of the book was just quoting other authors -- it's almost like a cliff notes of a bunch of other books (some of which are now on my reading list).

I think the contents of this book are valuable, and the challenges will be really good for a lot of people. Worth a look.

Overall I enjoyed it and it gave me lots to personally reflect on. However many of the studies referenced, examples and points felt more relevant to a specific type of person: married with kids working in corporate. There were minimal references to participants of the original challenge who didn't fit this mould.
If anything, the title and overall concept will stick with me.

This was a helpful book, but not necessarily revelatory. These are things I tend to tell my students, so I'm glad I now have a book I can wave at them to prove them!

Effectively a book length retelling of a podcast about how the mind benefits from occasional idleness and you should put down your cell phone every once in a while.

An incredibly easily accessible and well research book dealing with ways to be more mindful of our technology use. Zomorodi does a great job of trying to present both sides of the debate. It isn't about getting rid of technology or giving up on trying to take control. Her argument, which works very well, is about being more mindful about the decisions we make. At times, she seemed to rely too much on quotes from others and it becoming too much of a list of quotes.

Her steps are incredibly accessible and manageable compared to many "self-help" books. I will hope that the actions taken I will be able to implement and keep up with.

If you listen to this podcast and have for some time, the info in this book is mostly likely stuff you already know. Still worth reading, or listening to on audio like I did. HIGHLY recommend the audiobook read by Manoush. The book is well laid out and thoughtful, and is a good refresher for those who are Note to Self diehards, though I bet newbies would get even more out of it.

It was a pretty good book :) I enjoyed the author’s writing style, though it did come off sometimes as more of an extended research paper than a book, but it was well written, and spoke well to the subject. I always enjoy learning more about how we can best coexist with technology, so I might be a bit biased.
