What the heck happened!? Classic second book syndrome I think.

I’m not sure why so many sides plots half baked got into this book but maybe it’s to be properly completed in the next?

We get more POVs in this book which I was excited about, but I ended not caring much about any of them because as I would try to sink my teeth in , we moved on without much resolution. The pacing needless to say is quick and how I do enjoy my stories but a more defined overall main plot would have been good.

Cegos crazy growth in character also made things a little ridiculous, so much power and I felt cheated of the great authentic fight scenes we got in book one that we loved. Yes, the scenes were grander in scale in this book but it just felt like a Transformers cliche fight scene opposed to the cool stuff you get with Jackie Chan. How I made sense there!

I’m hoping book 3 brings back the good stuff in book 1.

Such a good sequel. I loved the new characters we got to follow. The plot kept my attention, and the pacing was just as good as the first book. I actually think I enjoyed this book more than the first. I loved the introduction of the revolutionary ideas and new settings. Can't wait for the finale to be released.

I absolutely loved the first book in this series and minus some minor editing mistakes, this one was no different.

The story doesn't pick up right where it was left off, but we sort of get a clue as to where a certain character from book one is in that opening scene. There are returning characters, Cego, Sol, Dozer, Knees and friends. Also Menmon, who I am glad we got to know better in this book. Murray is largely missing, but his presences still looms large.

We travel farther in this book and the world building is wonderful. Learning more mythos, a glimpse as to how things became the way they are (is it reliable?), And even an introduction to Silas' POV, one of Cego's brothers if you forget from Combat Codes. Silas is not just a ruthless killer, he has heart, he's fighting for something he believes in, and it turns out he's powerful on his own accord - and that's what he is fighting for.

The Damiyo are an interesting group who rely on stims and enhancements to live their lives the way they do, and understanding their world more makes this book fly by. Seeing Cego's struggles Silas' heart, Sol try and understand her father - and the introduction of new characters who didn't feel one dimensional all made this a 4.5 star read for me. I can't wait to see how it all comes together in the end. This world is brutal, it's full of heart, a touch of fantastical, and even some sci-fi - it's a coming of age tale of underground revolution, brotherhood, and growth.

I missed Cego’s mail POV, but I enjoyed Sol’s and Silas’s, it was just different. Cego’s chapters were short and made me angry for him, Sol’s were long and I understand why now at the end of the book, but I just wanted her part of the story to conclude quicker.

I know what this book was trying to do, but it just fell incredibly flat the entire time. It felt like it took way too long for anything to happen while at the same time not spending enough time on anything. Strangely paced book.
