Bug Montage is a former getaway driver for several criminal pursuits. However, he's put that life behind him to be a better partner and father than his own dad ever was. But when his auto repair shop hits hard times, and a former partner in crime comes calling, he takes "one last job" to get things squared financially. Things go awry, putting all that he's worked so hard for at risk.

4.5 stars. A marvel of narrative, though a disquieting one. Harrowing not only in its action but also in its thematic punch.

If you like a good anti-hero story then the story of Beauregard Montage is for you. It’s a little bit of a slow build but that is only because of the amazing character development. Once it picks up it doesn’t slow down which is perfectly fitting for the story. There are parts that could be hard to read (graphic/violent) but it was all done in an effort to tell the story. Overall would highly recommend and will stay with me.

Cosby sticks with themes familiar to his readers: racism, systemic poverty, and self-identity. His writing vividly and realistically depicts a life of crime and how difficult it is to change when faced with limited resources and opportunities. It's no surprise that Beauregard’s (Bug) character growth forces the reader to feel sympathy for unsympathetic decisions and actions as Bug struggles between good and bad, a life of crime and the family man he wants to be.  Even with Cosby’s signature themes and character study, the story feels fresh.

What else I loved:
🖤Heist thriller: high octane with diamonds, fast cars, and lots of bad people
🖤Crime World: feels dirty, unforgiving, and lots of violence. Cinematic scenes that need to be on the big screen!
🖤Narration: Lots of players in this story, but don't worry, Adam Lazarre-White changes his cadence between characters so it's easy to distinguish all of them.

This is my second book by Cosby. His writing is so gritty and he does an amazing job with flawed character development. I find myself invested and rooting for them. However, I was a little disappointed with the very end of this novel, I didn’t care for the way it wrapped up. Otherwise, it was great.
