Interesting themes (relationship between humankind and technological progress and the effect of humankind on the environment) and engaging writing style, as usual for Wyndham. However the execution fell a bit short, and while the sexiest attitude of the characters is certainly characteristic of the time when the book was written, it is nonetheless uncomfortable to read and fails to contribute to the story in a meaningful way.

Noped out of this one at 40%
the female stow away narrowly escapes a rape while the rest of the drunk crew talks about how women are too dumb to understand machines because they’re just made for baby making. Nothing about this book makes me think it’ll improve from here.
