The chapters are like umbrellas in the fact that there are a bunch of small stories that all have the same theme within a chapter. Personally, I got confused a little bit because it would be talking about one thing, then start a completely different story that happened years prior.

This memoir was really powerful. I really resonated with a lot of her insecurities with her parents growing up, and thought her writing was clear and emotive. I would say this book is great for fans of Kerry Washington and any of her work. The only downside was that the book did jump around chronologically a little bit, which I was not a fan of. Overall, I would recommend this memoir to others and it made me an even bigger fan of hers.
