The story was fun, the characters were well written and interesting and the pacing was fast enough. I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Definetly will read more from the author. Highly recommend!

This was my third book completed for the #25inFive readathon (25 hours spent reading in 5 days).

And it was a disappointment. Is this a family saga? A murder mystery? A melodrama? Because I checked this out from the library in hopes that it would be a murder mystery. Instead, it was a poorly done soap opera-esque melodrama with hints of a mystery... however, the writing was poor, the descriptions lackluster, and the editing nonexistent.

And the denouement of the mystery? Also almost nonexistent. The explanation of why and how the murders had been committed literally did not exist in this book. There were some clues thrown in there but they were not explained and I was unable to understand why Mac had gotten to the conclusion - and arranged the justice - that he did.

There are only two reasons this is not rated 1/5 stars for me: first, because I enjoyed parts of this book and would give the author another chance. And second, because I laughed out loud in one spot and that is something that happens very seldom, and speaks to the author’s sense of humor when it does.

Do NOT recommend, however. I have heard her other books are not as bad so I may give one a go at some point. We’ll see, though - I have many more actually good books to spend my time reading.

It was a decent book. I got really into it at the beginning, but slowly lost interest as the story went on. I do love the way that Elizabeth Adler writes, but I'm wanting to read more of her books without the same characters - it's getting a little boring to me. Hopefully the next one I get will be a stand-alone title.

I've listened to all of the Mac Riley books as part of this series...they are pretty much the same thing. Starts in California, Mac starts some investigation, ends up somewhere fabulous in Europe, is friends help, case is solved. The end.

So no real surprises....but I do like to listen to them not a lot a brain capacity required, and always a good story.

Where to begin? Ugh. Let's see... Well, I'm pretty sure almost half the book was made up of repetitive words such as "lover" and "Matriarch," which generally annoys me (oh, my inner goddess just gave me the finger).

Another thing is that the mystery didn't pan out. I really don't know anything about Peretti, the murderer, who was obviously the culprit from the beginning. There was never a confrontation between him and Mac or Bibi or Paloma because things just happened without any explanation. I'm still not quite sure how he murdered Brandi and Wally.

Mac was no Sherlock Holmes. He just seemed to know things about people without any explanation. I mean, please! Give me a clue as to how Mac made the conclusions that he made.
Then, there's Lorenza...
And Rodolfo being Paloma's biological father...Ew.

If a book like this can be published, anything could happen.
