This book was ok, not as good as I thought it was going to be, and I found the ending kind of anti-climatic.

One of my most favorite books, I read this while in college.

I'm sure many know the movie made of this book, and I can easily say, while the movie is great, the book excels. When I first started reading this, I didn't think I would like it since it's written completely in the form of letters sent to Charlie's pen pal. However, it did not take away from the story.

At it's core, this is simply a book about identity as a teenager. Charlie is a "wallflower" who is quiet, keeps to himself, and has lots of thoughts, many angsty. He meets friends who see him for who he is and relish it, but at the same time, encourage him to partake more in life rather than just watch. The relationships are real and very endearing.

I most identified with Charlie's struggle with depression and pain. The way he talks about it is so realistic and well put into words, without being too dramatic or cheesy. "I want you to know that I am both happy and sad and I'm still trying to figure out how that could be." this is one of my favorite quotes and I think it is so spot on. His self reflection is very real to fellow introverts.

Highly recommend this book. It is a must read for introverted teenagers. I wish I had found this earlier in life.
