Flavia, Flavia… She always seems to come through with fireworks, excitement, and a dash of impropriety. If you’re still reading this series - it’s for her.

While the author could be a little lighter on the metaphors and the number of times someone hopped from “foot to foot” was eye rolling. The overall story held its spunk right to the end.

Yep, it's good. Flavia's 12 now, and more confident of her powers.

The book drags a bit in the middle, and there are several things that are either red herrings for this book or foundations for a future one. Don't expect everything to be wrapped up at the end (although of course the murder is).

There's far too much "oh, ho, I'm not going to tell you what THAT means" from the author and sometimes too much clumsy foreshadowing that turns out to be, well, not as important as we had been led to believe.

But the ending rolls right along, and explains everything adequately.

And Flavia is as delightful as ever.

A few thrills and chills along the way to a harrowing cliffhanger that the observant reader will have vaguely seen coming (or at least speculated on) since the very first book in the series...when will the next one be out??
Some bits a little squeamish.

I’m gonna be honest this one was a tough read for me. (Why are the British names SO confusing??) The plot really had me all over the place because i couldn’t for the life of me figure how most things were connected between each other.
I’ve grown so attached to the Vicar and Antigone and i’m so glad they are making more regular appearances in the series.
I love that the crime scenes grow more and more disturbing with each book.

As with all of the Flavia de Luce books, this one brought about that deliciously curious feeling of wanting to rush through and devour the book in one sitting at the same time wishing it could last forever...or at least until the next installment is published. I didn't know it was possible to fall more in love with the delightfully high-spirited Flavia. I must admit that the ending came as a huge shock.
