Always nice to read about a place about which I know virtually nothing. For Wheeler, too, moving to Macedonia to serve in the Peace Corps required something of a cultural crash course, but she does a nice job of bringing many of her learnings into this text—some history and some cultural context.

The book ends fairly abruptly
Spoilerowing to life reasons
, but I'd have loved to have seen more of a look back—I'd be curious to know how Wheeler's experiences in Macedonia translated into her life once she returned to the States.
