Writing was beautiful but I really struggled with vague plot. Wish I had more character arc that I could root for so I could appreciate the writing more.

True to a lot of Ali Smith books, I spent the first three quarters of this not quite sure where I was or how the puzzle pieces fit together, just enjoying the experimental prose, and then it hit this peak catharsis point where everything came together and I just BAWLED, alone in a room, for like ten minutes.

My least favourite book by Ali Smith I’ve read so far. Not that it wasn’t well-written, but the structure of interconnected stories was too much of a lark for my liking and the atmosphere of the book was excessively claustrophobic and gloomy, even for a pseudo-ghost story.
