3.75 ARC REVIEW

"Because I know who you are, you’re not broken. You're simply still discovering pieces of yourself that were missing.”

I genuinely really enjoyed this book it gave me that twisters feel which was the goal!!! I was getting frustrated that she wasn’t leaving Justin even after everything he was doing but also when you’re in a situation like that it’s way easier said than done and I’m glad you worked up the courage. It did feel a little cheaty between Dash and her because they both had partners but it ended up working out. I just wish we got an epilogue or more of like what happens in the future after she finally leaves Justin. I’d love to see who she truly discovers she is and where she is after school and with the team and everything.

Blake is in an unhealthy relationship with an emotionally abusive boyfriend, Justin. He's the only person she's ever been with since she was thirteen and made a promise to never leave him, but he is controlling and holding her back from her full potential. She meets Dash in one of her college meteorology courses, who is everything she ever wanted Justin to be for her, and they become fast friends. Dash invites her to become part of his storm chasing crew, and things start to heat up.

If you like Colleen Hoover, you will probably like this story. Blake goes through a self awakening, and her character growth is so good! Dash has such a kind and gentle personality and is everything Blake needs to show her that she is worth so much more than to be used for someone else's selfish needs. I love how this story portrayed healing and healthy boundaries. I am looking forward to reading more stories by Molly E. Lee.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
thank you to entangled and molly e. lee for this arc in exchange for my honest opinion!
“alexa, play ‘ain’t no love in oklahoma’ by luke combs”

i really liked this book! and you know what? after seeing twisters last month… yeah, i was definitely in the market for something like this. this book made me feel so many things, and it was such a good read.

i will say that i loved seeing blake coming into her own over the course of the book. she starts out ruled by so much fear, and understandably so. but seeing her find the value in herself, her passions, and seeing her find true friendship, and eventually love,   was so amazing.

i also just want to say that justin can kick rocks. yes, i’m aware he’s got trauma, but it’s only an explanation for his actions. it’s not an excuse. i found myself rolling my eyes at him constantly; he made me so mad! and then what he did close to the end of the book? my god, i would’ve lost it. i’m so freaking glad that blake eventually cut him off because i could not stand him. he has the attitude and temperament of a fussy toddler. he acts like a child. my heart just really goes out to any people who feel trapped in relationships with people like him.

i also loved dash, john, paul, and lindsay. dash is literally so sweet? so kind? and he was exactly the kind of person blake needed to see how toxic her relationship with justin was and how she should be treated. his banter with john and paul was so funny. i love friend groups in books so much. it’s such a weakness of mine. and lindsay? such a girl’s girl. love her. she’s the kind of girlfriend that blake never had the opportunity to have. i was so worried at the beginning that she was going to be the popular girl stereotype and i was so relieved that she wasn’t. she’s just rooting for blake the whole time and wants her to be happy. i respect that.

another thing i wanted to touch on was blake taking time after justin to heal. i found that such an important thing to see in a book like this. so often we see the MMC “rescue” the FMC from a toxic relationship, only to jump right into her new relationship with the MMC and while that might sped up the pace of the story, it only works in fiction. i loved that she took time, got a self help book, and gave herself the sieve to find out who she really is. who she was without the eight year relationship. it was so freaking nice to see. it’s definitely something that will stick with me for a while.

This was like Twister vut with more drama. You have some emotional abuse, lots of storms and some tornadoes, plus a growing friendship. Dash and Blake build such a phenomenal friendship and he shows her that she is enough. She deserves more and better.

Loved it!

Blake has lived under storm clouds her entire life- from the verbal abuse of her father, to the abuse of her boyfriend, Justin. After 8 years of being with Justin, she’s become a shell of herself, giving in to his demands and not stirring the pot. Studying to be a meteorologist is just another storm for her.

Until she meets pro storm chaser Dash Lexington. He’s everything her boyfriend isn’t, and there is a dangerous storm brewing between them. Dash is electrifying, and opens her up to so much. For the first time ever, she puts herself first. And the tension between Dash and Blake is enough to cause a storm of emotions.

Now, will Blake leave her boyfriend? Will she chase just the storms of nature? Or will she chase the storm in Dash’s eyes?

This was a total five star book for me. I love the movie Twister, and this book reminds me so much of it! It’s one of my favorite movies, and this book may very well be a favorite of the year. I love the writing style of the author. Molly makes me feel like I’m immersed in a storm, chasing it and passion right along with Blake and Dash. I got lost, feeling the wind whipping around me, hearing the tornados screaming, and feeling the zest between the characters.

I do want to mention there are some trigger warnings in this book, so please read them before you read this book. Your mental health matters. A few triggers are on page depictions of emotional and physical abuse, violence, suicidal thoughts and attempts, extreme weather, and graphic sexual content, including assault. Please, look after yourself.

TWISTER(S) LOVERS, I NEED YOUR ATTENTION
The way I consumed this like it was giving me life... and indeed maybe it was?? Storm chasers?? Hello this book was written for me I feel.

First of all, I read this as a reprint/re-edited ARC (thanks Entangled *wink*) and it is my understanding that there are some full scenes that have been completely removed or changed. I did read some reviews after finishing and have found that some scenes (that were understandably SUS were completely absent from my copy.

Warning: PLEASE read content warnings at the beginning of the book! This book deals VERY heavily with emotional abuse and its endless cycle that many people find themselves in. The abuse continues for much of the book, as the main character navigates a safe way to exit the relationship. While this also does document a very cute budding romance, it does have a very dark focus on the toxicity of her pre-existing relationship.

Some nitty gritty:
- Blake is such a strong female lead who is caught up in a horribly abusive long-term relationship and spends most of the book trying to safely exit the relationship.
--- At times, this book FELT really long because so much of the book details her back and forth with her toxic bf, but then when I thought about it, I realized that this is actually such a beautiful representation of reality because people who are caught in these kinds of relationships often do struggle to get out because of the cycle and the threats and the fear. The book was constantly moving, I never felt bored. So even when it felt repetitive, sitting back to think made me realize how real that made the story feel.
- The storm chasing scenes were ICONIC and honestly I was living my dreams through this book (mini story time: I almost went to school for meteorology because I wanted to be storm chaser for real, so yeah this book is everything). The team of Dash/John/Paul/Blake was simply amazing.
- The hurt/comfort themes were precious and beautiful. Dash really comes in as a knight in shining armor that should have seemed cheesy but in fact was perfect and exactly what Blake needed in her life.
- THE DOG SCENE HAD ME SCEAMING like ex-ca-use me?? (note: the dog does not die)
- "True love is friendship set on fire" (*cue emotional tears of HOW CUTE*)

Tropes:
friends to lovers
hurt/comfort
"you stay, I stay"
only one bed

This book was really hard for me to read. Reading an abusive relationship is always hard, but I feel like it's always way harder when that abuse is emotional and manipulative. As much as I loved Dash, I felt like I never really got to know him. There relationship was sweet and exciting, but didn't have a lot to it. Maybe an epilogue could of helped with that.? It was an okay book.
P.S. I'm not sure if I'll read Justin's book Edge of Recovery...
