Well, if you were expecting things to improve for Jared in this second book in the trilogy, you'd be mighty wrong!
Most of the book is spent watching Jared navigate the world as a recovering alcoholic. He manages to land on his feet, getting into college despite all odds, and starts building a life for himself. And you start hoping that things are going to stay good for poor Jared, who really is a sweet kid that got dealt a really shitty hand in life. Until the worst happens and forces him to take on his Trickster mantle. And shit starts speeding back downhill in a matter of mere chapters.
While being incredibly detailed and wildly imaginative, this book left me feeling more exposed and raw than the first one. I can't even imagine where the last book is heading...

2021 reread: I'm glad I reread this before jumping into Return of the Trickster. As much as I remembered most of the story, I feel like I picked up on things that I may have missed the first time around and made me think about different aspects/ideas than I originally did.
Also I think I enjoyed the ending more this time around. As much as I liked it the first time, certain things I was confused by made more sense this time.
Anyway, great book and still 5/5 for me! And now it's Return of the Trickster time!

Okay so first I just need to say that I liked this book a lot better than I liked the first one.
I think we finally got past the background of it all and into the real crazy shit. And there was a lot of crazy shit that Jared puts up with, but honestly it was so fun to read. I loved Mave, honestly I maybe love her more than I like Maggie. And his relationship with Olive and Eliza was so precious I loved it.
I think watching the show before I read this really tainted the way I see Georgina, but needless to say I was sorta surprised. In a good way. I also really like that we haven’t actually met Wee’git yet. I have theories about who it’s gonna be but I won’t say anything.
I am really excited for the third and final book to come out in a couple of months. I’m honestly glad I put off reading this one so long because now I don’t have much longer to wait for the final instalment.

I devoured this book. It is so good! I loved the first one but Jared and the writing really come into it's own in Trickster Drift. There were a couple hiccups with Justice's introduction but I adored this book as a whole. I can't wait for the third one.
