A friend of mine recommended this book, and it feels very personal.  Even describing what it was about is quite personal, like you might focus on different aspects of the story.
It's about Helen Knott losing her mother to cancer and shortly afterwards, her grandmother to dementia.  It's about grieving and learning and letting go of what once was, not just her foremothers but how she related to the world, what she took on, etc.
I like that she talks about uncertainty and how to meet it, though I feel that she is still quite attached to certainty, even as she supposedly embraces being uncertain.

Something that I really appreciated about this book is that Knott recognizes and acknowledges that life is not a straight line - it's more of a spiral, and her story feels that way. I thought this might be a memoir of a woman discovering herself and her power, and while that was part of it, it's clear that Knott knows she is still learning and growing and is still on her journey towards becoming a matriarch. I think too often these kinds of memoirs focus on people getting their lives together and solving their problems and I'm left wondering why my life doesn't feel like that. Knott is honest about her journey and about feeling lost and I really appreciated her honesty and vulnerability.

I was really interested in this book, but I had to DNF. I felt like I was slogging through and it just wasn't worth it to continue to listen.

A powerful memoir on what it means to be a strong woman. It's heartbreaking, hopeful, beautiful, and everything in between. A love letter to all my strong women out there, you are not alone.

A deeply moving book of love and loss, how to break down and how to stand strong. I feel privileged to have read it.
