I currently live in a toxic household so I am not sure if I want to read about a kid growing up in a similar environment. I am intrigued though. Again, the artwork in this has me feeling very indifferent.

I saw this comic in the library and I am so glad I did! It's a fantastic horror story of a haunted doll house with a gory origin story! I love the story of how the main character learns about the doll house and all the dolls in house. The dolls are all apart of the same family of a different generation and in the most recent generation has had enough of the house and tries to destroy it. That is until the house comes back and takes revenge on the main character by destroying her own family. The story does have a happy ending until you learn the house might not be gone completely.

Joe Hill described this as "The Indian in the Cupboard, if the enchanted cupboard was secretly a door to hell."
I mean ... how could I not read this then?
This first issue is just setting things up but I like where it's going.
I kind of want to mention a trigger warning, even though this is horror so it's kind of expected it's not going to be all rainbows and sunshine, the amount of domestic violence in this might catch some people by surprise since it's not mentioned in the summary at all. It's pretty awful and heartbreaking, of course, but even more so because this is what's used to
This is definitely a dark story and possibly not for the faint of heart.
Only thing that really bothered me is just how awesome the cover art is for all of the issues but the inside art is nowhere near that style at all.
I mean ... how could I not read this then?

manipulate the little girl into doing something awful and potentially selling her soul, in a way.This is definitely a dark story and possibly not for the faint of heart.

after reading locke and key by joe hill, i wanted more and found this. the beginning starts of pretty similar to locke and key, the more you read, the more questions you get rather than answers. you get two separate storylines, one i am guessing is the current one and the other is to explain where the dollhouse came from. there is one lesson that i took away from reading the first issue - never accept anything from anyone that you are not close to. they could be distant relatives yeah but without purpose why will they be giving you anything. lol. over all it is a good entry to the story.

This graphic novel is about a little girl inheriting a spooky dollhouse that has many ancient and hidden secrets within its walls. I thought the story was interesting and really enjoyed the plot. As for the chapter break artworks, wow! I loved how creepy and beautiful they are. They would make me stop and admire the work. The artwork throughout was good--just your standard style.
This story was very reminiscent of Creep Show (naturally) with a hint of Basketcase (yes, the 80's horror film--it just made me think of that movie a lot..ha!). Overall, I enjoyed it--one of the first plot twists was semi predictable but the ending had me curious for the future of the story.
I recommend this for people who like some gore and mystery with creepy dollhouses.
