DNF at 16% Nope no thank you ma’am! I was really disliking this from the get go and gave it a bit but the repetitive and fluffy nature of the writing just bored me to death so…… we are not finishing this one at all.

It was rough at first to get past the back and forth through time. I don't do well keeping track so quickly. However, the story was so vivid that I could picture it easily as I read. Great story!

This book was great! Twist and turns but not so many that you wanted to stop reading because you were confused. Just enough surprises to make you not put the book down. The ending wrapped everything up in a way I didn't see coming, but that makes perfect sense.

Enjoyed this book very much. Multiple narrators is always fun.
Do wish a little more had gotten resolved at the end - the other brothers, Agnus' family etc.
Thought the parallels with Agnus' family and the McLaughlin's was interesting too if disturbing to read.

What a sad ending! The whole premise of this book was really interesting. The main story line reflects on a character, Margaret, who has PTSD. The book flashes back to the time of the incident while still being told in the present. I enjoyed the story very much. I liked most of the characters except Angus...I really hated Angus. He is such a rude arrogant man who believes that woman are useless. I just feel so bad for George and what he had to go through. He didn't deserve what he was put through. Besides that, a pretty decent book!

I really don't agree with the "edge-of-your-seat writing" comment on the blurb because the suspense is really more of an in the past, viewed through flashback type. That Margaret's life changes after her car accident isn't surprising, it's the memories she recovers that are. The other two plotlines follow George, a rather gormless Scot from a family that ruled its town via thuggery and threats, and Angus, a reporter looking to find George and the girl he's abducted. There's no real surprise when the stories merge in the present, hence the loss of the star. The brutality of George's family and his search for "someone who loves him" and Angus' towards his wife and children, but great love for his cow (seriously. his cow.) are, I think, supposed to have some greater significance than they do. If the publisher would stop promoting this as suspense/thriller/mystery and more of a recovered memory/family saga, there will be fewer disappointed readers because the story is good, it's just not in that genre.

Intriguing mix... characters are often very unlike able, with just enough tug at the heart.
