This was surprisingly good. Kept me at the edge of my seat. I had suspicions about the culprit, and I liked how I was wrong but still close. At least the one person I trusted turned out to be good 😊

The addiction to opium is more the focus than the murder mystery. I do like that it pulls from dracula and is set when the novel comes out. I think overall it was superficial about a lot of issues so it could focus on a rich girl with an opium addiction. Which would be an interesting book but this is supposed to be a murder mystery and that was clearly the subplot. Disappointing

such a mixed bag. the mystery is fun and spooky and the main character is smart and rebellious and angry, but you really have to navigate the trigger warnings and i don’t know that the story was worth doing that work for
