This was such an incredibly messed up book, yet was one of my favorite reads of the year so far.

Being inside of the head of a serial killer is never a good thing and this book really drove it home. The descriptions of the main characters murders were so graphic is made my stomach turn, but the vivid descriptions of food would make me hungry a page or two later. It was such a strange juxtaposition. The main character's complete lack of empathy and emotion was stunning.

I recommend this one, but know what you're getting into.

To sum it up in one word, this book was excessive.

Loved the
cannibalism and symbolism related to partaking in the act of it
but the rest was boring or felt slightly offensive.
Wasserman, the female black cop, was treated so weirdly. The author was fixed on her Blackness, and described her hair constantly and weirdly. Also compared her to a horse multiple time so?????
Dorothy tells the narrative in a weird, jumpy way I got used to, but it took away any thrill or surprise because she would just tell you whatever she was going to do in a summary, then go onto explain it in more tedious prose. Maybe true crime readers who like a #girlboss story will like it, but the story fell flat after about 8 chapters for me, and a lot of the "profound" shit was underwhelming but so tedious to read.

Definitely an interesting read. It took me longer to finish than a typical 250 page book and I think there were a couple of factors at play.
1. The main character doesn't experience a lot of emotions, which are usually what really invest me in a story.
2. The main character is a gourmand, and her tastes are far richer than what I'm familiar with. Many of the author's analogies and invocations use dishes or wines that my nugget-loving palette cannot comprehend.
I was keenly aware that I was missing out on nuanced portions that a more informed foodie could probably grasp with ease.
That being said, I loved this refined take on a female psychopath, and how unapologetically she was written.
If you want an FMC who is incredibly intelligent, driven, sexual, and pretentious, this book is for you!

I liked the descriptions of food more than the rest of the book, I think that says a lot, even though I'm a fan of horror and cannibalistic themes and was very excited in the beginning
like, it's a good book, i guess, but it's bad in various aspects and the writing style is not my cup of tea (“I tasted the bleach-and-umami flavour of his precum” what.)
interesting plot though?? idk, good but not that great

Very good book. I think it was really good. Honestly conflicted on it being a 4 or a 3.75 I think it's just a little conflicting for me. The story was interesting and compelling and I think the thing that's stopping me from knowing for sure is figuring out how I feel about Emma and Dorothy. Cause for a psychopath she does seem to love a lot of people and that's tripping me up a little. But very good book and Dorothy definetly gave me the vibe of classic killer who thinks she's better and smarter than she really is. Also appreciate that we didn't see all of her lovers that she killed, at that point I think it would've been redundant and maybe a little greedy. All in all great book would and probably will read again.
