Ohhhhh I love a good twist ending, and this novel delivered.
It’s been a while since I read a book that left me theorizing at every page about what may happen next, or what motivations the characters have for their actions. I had a lot of fun trying to guess who the ‘bad guy’ at the end of this was going to be, and even more pleased to find myself surprised by the way everything finally unfolded.
Along the way, we get to meet Calvin, who is renting out a room at his farmhouse as an AirBnB, and Grace, who is a New Yorker looking for a country escape. With alternating viewpoints throughout the novel, we get a glimpse into Grace’s increasing worries and uncertainties, as well as Calvin’s determination to win Grace over during her short stay.
Of course, nothing is ever so simple. With the recent deaths of not only Calvin’s parents, but also his last girlfriend, the seeds of doubt in Calvin’s stability and trustworthiness are planted in the mind of the reader and Grace alike from the very start. Of course, a jealous crush from town, locals who seem to want nothing more than to get rid of the Big City outsider, and Calvin’s no-good brother with his own slew of secrets makes it feel like no one in the small town can be trusted.
And when the police show up looking for a missing girl - who should’ve checked in shortly before Grace but Calvin claims never showed up - it gets nearly impossible not to suspect fowl play… but from who?
If you’re a fan of suspense and mysteries, and somehow haven’t managed to cross paths with this novel yet, go give it a read!

I personally didn't think the twist was well hinted on or made enough sense.
