Nice survival story. Not keen on the whole man-eater storyline though.

SO this is a fairly interesting adventure tale about pacific islanders. I think that it seems fairly decent for a tale written by some white dude from Connecticut. But it definitely has racist elements, and I'm sure could be done better by an actual islander.

Your standard kid winds up on deserted island, survives and thrives, then comes back to society. Quick, easy read.

The great blizzard of 1888 came out of nowhere and caught many people in New England unaware. Two stories of snow, below freezing temperatures, and hurricane winds affected New York, Connecticut, Vermont, and many others. This nonfiction book uses personal accounts, photos, and drawings to complement the stories. This book presents a real picture of what life was like during 1888, especially during a snowstorm. While many survived, there were many who died.
This book was supremely interesting! The author made the material interesting by tying it to real people and their stories.

This book isn't great, but it's okay compared to other olde timey Newberry winners, I guess. Big Island of the Blue Dolphins energy with none of that book's emotional depth.

I could have sworn that I had read this book as a kid because the title sounds familiar but I'm pretty sure I didn't because I would have remembered how lame it was. It wasn't a chore to get through and it was under 100 pages, but not good one.
