I started to read this book to my class of 11-12 year olds but after around 60 pages the kids decided they didn't want to continue. Authorship has come along way since this was written and it was hard for the kids to appreciate that the time in which it was written was quite different. Being Australian we found it hard to connect with the characters and their lives and found that the author did a lot of 'telling' and not a lot of 'showing', which is something they work hard at in their own writing. However, I kept reading it in my own time and found that the story developed some interesting twists and turns and enjoyed the way it was left open for the sequels. My rating would be different to my student's rating.

Read this a million years ago. Fell in love with the borrowers. Highly recommend the movie Arrietty if you like this book.

Such a cute book, just what I needed in the adult world I live in. Now I want to watch the Ghibli movie again!

This was sweet! It’s so different from the movie and I really wanted more descriptions of the borrowers space and tbh the characters were annoying but I love the ideaÂ
