Listened to the audiobook. 2.5 but I’ll be generous and round up. I enjoyed the beginning a lot but then I found myself slowly drifting off. I actually think it was too short but don’t think there’s enough intrigue for a second full length book.

I chose this book because I’m a huge Morbid fan, but ended up not loving it. I feel that Alaina’s story has great potential, but I could tell it was her first ever novel. The writing seemed to be trying to hard to be creative, and the characters had really no development at all. The book was short and felt rushed, but at the same time there were many parts that left me feeling like “ok and what was the point of that?”  For example, the part where she goes out with her friends and goes to the fortune teller?? Really what was that about.

The plot twist was good but the writing style didn’t really make me feel anything. It was more like “oh dang” but not actual surprise. I had to go back multiple times to figure out what had happened when I realized we were skipping timelines to make sure I was understanding it correctly. Like did Jeremy/Cal have an office job while he was in medical school?? At first I thought the chapters when he’s in school were the ones from 7 years ago, but then he would be in the past and be going to his office job. I feel there should’ve been some sort of obvious (but not too obvious) difference between his past and present points of view so we could tell which one he was in.

The ending was also very rushed. It seems like Alaina has a really great idea of a storyline, but just needs more skill at putting it into writing. She has extensive knowledge of the human body but seems to know nothing about normal police procedure. The ending felt so unrealistic and superficial in the way the police handled the ambush.

Overall it was a decent book that kept my attention because of the unique storyline, and I will probably read the sequel just to find out what happens.

Honestly, I was expecting something else.
I didn't enjoy it.
It was really hard to read, because of the constant jumps between POV. She split chapters in the middle to change POV unnecessarily,  and it didn't make sense. And completely destroyed the pace of the book.
The plot twist is really good, but unfortunately that's all the book has.
And in the begging having Wren constantly comparing the killer with others serial killers was really annoying and make absolutely no sense. And she was constantly contradicting herself with that. Because um one chapter the killer was confident, and in the other it wasn't.

I feel like I would’ve liked it more if it was longer. It just kind of felt like everything was happening too quickly, like an episode of Criminal minds. But even the ‘twist’ was kind of meh. Like I finished it quickly and wanted to get to the end but it was definitely lacking something.

SO good, I’ve been looking for a horror/thriller that keep you on your toes and this did the trick, haven’t found one that isn’t incredibly predictable in the longest time. Alaina is a talented writer and her expertise in the field and he research wrote what I imagine actually goes through serial killers heads, she puts you there, and it’s terrifying and interesting all at the same time.
