Waffling heavily between three and four stars. I deeply enjoyed this but I think part of it was that I’d set my expectations correctly—it’s not as great as Serpent and Dove, but it does have the same amazing page turning tension. I did love getting to spend more time with Lou and Reid. There were some great twists in here!

BUT! I would agree with many others, it does feel a bit like a filler book... 500 pages in, I feel like we made no real progress towards resolving the main plot points of the series. That’s a bit disappointing. And that ending just about killed me. WHY? Why did you do that?

There’s a fine line between keeping a reader on their toes and having them walk away in frustration. This book balances right on the line.

That said, I cannot WAIT for the third installment! I hope it ties up every loose end!

It had been a while since I’d read the first one so initially I was very confused by all the characters and plot, but didn’t take long to get into it.

Was quite slow at the start but sped up near the middle and then I couldn’t put it down.

This was a solid read but it did suffer from middle book syndrome. I enjoyed the second half of the book a lot better than the first, once the plot had gotten going and more characters had been introduced.

I’m really excited to read Gods and Monsters to see how it ends! I have a feeling I’ll love it like I did Serpent and Dove.
