tanjiro, you absolute gem of a human being. no one could ever make me hate you.

one thing I've always loved about demon slayer is how it humanises the demons without justifying or condoning their actions, and rui is no exception. his backstory is so tragic yet so beautifully written - he's without a doubt my favourite of the lower moons.

as for the rest of this volume, there's so much this instalment does well. it's so much more well-paced than the previous volumes, and I found the dialogue a lot less awkward and the action sequences were a lot easier to follow along with. while I do think the characterisation and character development needs more work, the characters themselves are so fun and wonderful that you can't help but love them. well, most of them. those spider demons still terrify me, and my feelings about zenitsu are more mixed than positive.

Got distracted watching the anime lol but I enjoyed the Spider Demon arc here. First step in Nezuko's rise to power. And the beginning of Tanjiro unlocking Sun Breathing!! :D

The 5th volume and the spider arc continues! I love that we saw battles from both the new peeps and also Inosuke/Tanjiro/Nezuko! Plus, some backstory on the demons. Yes, they are the baddies, but especially Rui's story just made me sad. The battles are really well done and I love seeing what each of the slayers have for abilities and what forms they control. It was very exciting and I cannot wait to read on with volume 6! See what happens next... and if Zenitsu was helped out in time. Oh, and I laughed when that one guy hung Inosuke in a tree because he was injured and wouldn't stop battling. Oh boy! Oh, and Inosuke showed some better stuff in this one. I am happy with that.
