Out of all mythological creatures Medusa has always been my favourite. Turning people to stone with just one look, seems like a nice feature to have. If only it came with an on/off switch!

When the author Rosie contacted me and offered to send me an advanced readers copy of her book in exchange for an honest review I literally jumped at the chance. Anything mythology ... greek mythology especially and I am there for it.
Thank you so much Rosie.

“The reality is, the world will hear what it wants to hear. History will remember what it wants to remember.”

It’s often forgotten how much Medusa went through. What she survived. Everyone just remembers the horrors she did. And forget why she did everything.

The retelling is written in her perspective. She lays out her story in an honest and raw way. Leaving it to the reader to make their own judgment.

When I picked up this book, I couldn’t put it down. I just had to hear the whole story.

To say I enjoyed reading MEDUSA is a massive understatement. I flew through the book, reading the entire thing in less than 24 hours, the way Medusa's story is told just made me want to keep reading to find out her full story. I'm really concious of putting spoilers so I'll try to leave it there. But the way this book is written and the refreshing change of seeing another side to a misunderstood mythical figure having their story retold in such a way that resonates with current culture means you develop such a personal connection with Medusa. I think I would also be remiss not to give honourable mention to the relationships Medusa develops in the book, and even though it is a relatively short book, to create such rapport with the reader in a short space of time is a true representation of how advanced Hewlett's writing is. I am now pestering everyone I know to read this, and am waiting rather impatiently for any signs of a second book from Hewlett.

I liked this retelling of the Medusa myth, but ultimately it didn’t strike me as exceptionally innovative. The informal tone that Medusa takes as she tells her story seems a little too modern at times and kind of jolted me out of the setting. That being said, the approach to her story towards the end was more interesting than the beginning.
