A difficult text, this. The writing is not the hard part for me--rather, keeping track of the shifting characters, who they are, where they are, what they are...that was the hard part. I loved the opening and the heavy-handed symbolism. Then everything went a blurry shade of magical realism (magical unrealism?).
I picked this up because I'd never read it and wanted to try to understand what prompted the attack on the author a couple of months ago. I don't think I ever will understand that kind of anger and hatred though.

Titulo: Los versos satanicos
Autor: Salman Rushdie
Año publicado: 1988
Motivo de lectura: #DesafioLectura2022 #RetoLecturaAnual
Lectura / Relectura: Lectura
Fisico / Electronico: Fisico/Electronico
Mi edicion: Tapa blanda, 679 paginas, Debolsillo
Idioma: Español/Ingles/Hindi
Puntuacion: 2/5

This book is killing me. It may be better to read a physical copy rather than listen to the audiobook. There are so many plot lines that change so quickly, if your attention wanders, you find yourself frequently rewinding to determine how you got to the part you're listening to. (And yes, I ended a sentence with a prepositional phrase. I don't care.) Normally, I'll get through an audiobook in about 3-5 days. If the book's long, it can take up to 15 days. I started this thing back in April 2015 and I keep taking breaks for other, more interesting, audiobooks. I'm eventually going to finish listening to it because I've gotten this far - I want to find out what ultimately happens. But the idea of spending another 10 hours listening to this is incredibly disheartening.
Update: I've realized that I'm never going to finish this book - I literally don't want to spend any more of my life on this story. I'm throwing in the towel and calling it done at halfway through.
