It's fascinating reading these in order of the chronology of the world itself, which is opposite to when they were released. In retrospect I think it's probably best to read them in the order released, as the excitement of having things explained to me that were not in the previous book would have been an extra thrill.
This is very much not a knock on the books themselves, which each do different things while still serving the overall universe. Mind you I think Clay's Ark would still be my favorite of the 4 as this is Butler in apocalypse mode which is a thing I always love, especially from her.
