Fun sequel to the original story; good follow up on background story in the original book.

Look out Cinnabonman, this Witch Hunter is even sweeter. Clem is a more fitting protagonist too. I love the magic worldbuilding the other book was missing. Unfortunately, there are problems. Clem and her cousin barely interact in this book, and when they do, it's from the last book when they're mad at each other. The twist in the first book is treated weirdly in this book. It was re-revealed in the first half without any build-up. Clem is just like, "What? I guess that makes sense."
SpoilerThe twist is gram lied their whole life about losing their magic. Clem never even thinks "I can lose my powers."
Then it's just swept under the rug. So parts of this book wouldn't make any sense reading out of order. I still believe these two books should have been one. There's not much of Titus or Lucy, but there are too many characters anyway. Most frustratingly, Gram once again gets away with everything.
Spoiler They talk at the end of the book and it's crammed in with clem's parents. We don't see Gram feel bad, say sorry, or lose her connections. Then we have an 18-month skip which is way too long.
