This is a really conflicting review. I have a lot of feelings about it. Honestly, I don’t do sports. But being from her ‘hometown’ or more accurately ’home city’ and having attended some of the same places as a child, I found it intriguing. I honestly hadn’t been following her and only really remember hearing about that kiss that made news and her retirement in recent years. I feel like this book was more just a journal and cathartic journey for her self acceptance, rather than something I needed to read. It just felt more personal where I kept asking myself, but why should I care about these details? I felt like it touched on mental health, but not enough, and addiction similarly until the end.

So yeah, happy I read it but don’t know what the audience is to gain from the story.

I’m great full to be given the chance to read this memoir. this was a simple read and a brief overview of the world that has shaped our beloved women’s soccer player. I feel like there is so much missing; deeper thoughts and explanations, reasons for some actions, finite details. Yes she mentions specific situations and she touched on feelings with direct quotes but it didn’t quite feel like she was as open as she could be. Don’t get me wrong writing about one’s trials and tribulations is challenging - so many of us don’t verbalize them but these are in ink and paper! I see this book writing as part of a therapy process and maybe it will lead to more and her next chapters in the next 35 years ;).
Thank you for sharing your story, Abby! <3

Absolutely beautiful and powerful. What a journey watching Abby grow through this book from beginning to end. I related hard as a fellow Gemini to the dual sides and her passion is intense but admirable. I really enjoyed this book and I think it’s worth reading and even sharing with those who need to remember that what you think is rock bottom, isn’t necessarily the end. It’s okay to pick yourself back up and start again.
