It took a while to get into this book. The sixth book in the series tied up many of the major plot drivers, but certainly leaving room for more books.

In some ways, this book seemed like a bit of an afterthought, and it took the plot a while to move forward. But once it did, it was a great and fun adventure. I enjoyed seeing the fae realm (which is clearly a difficult but dangerously enjoyable place. The continued romantic(ish) relationship with Zav is fun. And *eventually* we will actually find out about the secrets of Val's sword.

Audiobook. Faery, dragons, assassins, going to elf world, marriage proposals.

Enjoyable--though it bothered me a lot, this time, how little Val seems like a mother. Amber has always seemed sort of tacked-on to provide Val a more diverse history than your standard supernatural romance/urban fantasy heroine, but I was hoping we'd eventually get more depth on that front. Nothing says Val has to be "motherly," per se, but I just still don't buy that she raised Amber up until four years old.

Otherwise, the story was decent, and Sarrlevi was an interesting addition. I was disappointed that Val's cut/infection got cured so easily because it seemed that storyline was going somewhere more significant, but maybe it'll feature in future volumes somehow.

I also wasn't fully pleased with how quickly Val went from "we're not ready to get married" to fully and confidently agreeing. Some more internal reflection would have been appreciated. The proposal itself was nice, though.

I enjoyed the new storyline and feel like the arch that comes out of this will be a fun ride. I enjoyed returning to the familiar characters and setting and world. I continue to like the main character's snarky attitude and the light feeling of the writing.

I think someone who hadn't read the first 6 could have picked up this book and not been confused, but I would still recommend starting at the start!

Eh, I really struggled with this series and finally decided I didn’t need to finish it.

The last 25% of the book was so worth the slow start. Excellent battle scene and heart-warming character progression.

This is fun, intense and exciting - a well crafted world that keeps it fresh, while building on the foundation created in previous installments.
