I have read some weird books, but this is one novel I just couldn’t take. While I love the art style of the 90’s, this has to be the weirdest thing I may have ever read. I couldn’t buy Batman as a Vampire. It starts out weird but I’m still going with it until he sprouts wings and is now for real the BAT-man. In Bloodstorm, just looking at the Joker in this strange setting made me giggle, it wasn‘t much of a story and not up to par with the Jokers‘ usual antics. Then they did it. They took my favorite character to obsess over (Selena Kyle) and made her a were-cat when she was bitten by a wolf that was really a vampire who happened to turn into said wolf. HUH? Wouldn’t she be a vampire or werewolf then? As it progressed the artwork got more goofy with the Vamp-Batman. In Crimson Mist it kept getting more goofy bringing in every single villain and killing them- the thing Batman never does. I really didn’t like the ending, to summarize everybody dies.

I'd say the main positive of this collection is that vampire Batman has a pretty good design, at least in the first two parts. The story went on far too long for what the concept required. Other than the design of a few characters the art is pretty bad, with several panels verging on unintentionally hilarious.

I paused my reading of the Knightfall Saga for this as a halloween story. And man is it ever spooky.
The Red Rain Trilogy is fantastic and makes full use of it's elseworlds setting.
Throughout the trilogy you can slowly watch Batman sink into madness and death in a way that would never be allowed in the main continuity. And damn does he get savage by the end. This character arc is truly the centerpiece of this trilogy and entirely pulls you into it's story.
The writing is really great for the most part, the only gripe I'd have is how quickly Batman is supposed to have a super strong relationship to Tanja from the first part in this. I buy his relationship to Selina Kyle much more in the second part since it's properly part of the story, but Tanja never felt as important as they try to portray her.
I mostly loved Kelly Jones' art and how perfectly it captured the scary vibe, with only a few hiccups like the portrail of alfred being super strange in some panels. This style really lends itself perfectly to horror stories and Jones absolutely doesn't hold back here. By the third part Batman is barely recognizable as a humanoid creature most the time, and I love it. It also doesn't hold back in showing blood, guts, and violence at the hands of the main character, which is refreshing to see in a DC release.
Overall this is a brilliant read that I would recommend to anyone who doesn't mind seeing blood in their comics.

the story had a lot of potential but ended up being corny and melodramatic. i think the first volume was too long and drawn out. a plot like this didn't need this much set up and if it did we needed more than just the 3 issues. it got wrapped up way too quickly with an unsatisfying ending. the rushed catwoman love story was a little ridiculous but it was a nice idea. i hated some of the art, especially the way alfred was drawn. crimson mist was my favorite in this set, mostly because of all the crazed evil batman panels. crimson also has the best art from all three issues.

Sarò sincero: prima di leggerlo, pensavo che sarebbe stata una mezza cagata, perché l'idea dei vampiri a Gotham mi sembrava stupida. Ma in giro ne parlano bene, quindi mi sono fidato.
E ho fatto bene, perché sono tre storie davvero belle!
Tre avventure appassionanti, cupe e drammatiche. Il modo con cui sono state uniti il mito dei vampiri con l'universo di Batman, è brillante: in queste storie c'è il meglio che si può avere da storie di vampiri e il meglio che si può avere da storie di Batman.
Storie coinvolgenti e inquietanti, e i disegni di Kelley Jones (ed anche i colori, direi) sono semplicemente perfetti, per questo tipo di atmosfere.
Forse la terza storia è la meno riuscita, come trama, ma compensa con grandi scene dal forte impatto emotivo.
