A domestic mystery that sadly didn't live up to the hype in my opinion with an extremely predictable plot twist.

I think this is my first 5 star rating in a very very long time. I devoured this. And it was my first ever audiobook listen!! This book took me by surprise. I knew nothing about it and only borrowed it because it was available to borrow instantly. I loved this one! It started out confusing but then quickly became very intriguing and interesting. The style of writing was great!! The characters were amazing and all likeable even though they were glaringly human. Loved this book and while I may reduce it to 4.75, it was brilliant and easy but also dark. Great lessons in there and very creative.

G O O D .
I was hooked, all I kept thinking about was coming back to read this amazing book.
It's so real. Too real.
Brought up a lot of emotions, anger, frustration, empathy.
I could sadly relate to too many aspects of the book.
The inner monologue - self blaming, denial, comparison and so much more, is too accurate to people who suffer a relationship with narcissistic and manipulative people.
The plot itself was also very gripping and enthralling.
I thought about so many different twists, but not this one.
Amazing, amazing book.

I have mixed feelings on how this portrays domestic abuse, rape, and their perpetrators. it’s annoying and disappointing, given that it’s integral to the story, that there is no acknowledgment by the text that what occurred was rape. rape was only seen as a possibility along with general sexual assault.

for a mainstream book with humorous tones, it does well overall, and I’m grateful. love the solidarity between women, especially Madeline and Jane’s friendship. I got emotional at many points.

« Je veux dire, un homme gros et moche peut quand même être drôle, sympa et brillant. Mais on dirait que, pour une femme, être grosse et moche, c’est le summum. Il n’y a pas plus honteux. (…) Nous vivons dans une société obsédée par la beauté, un monde qui considère que le plus important pour une femme, c’est de faire en sorte d’être séduisante pour les hommes. »

Everyone was right about this book - I totally devoured it. I wish I hadn't accidentally spoiled a plot point for myself, but it was still such an enjoyable read. What an interesting study of the many ways misogyny presents in everyday life from both men and women.
