The plot is as absurd as it is entertaining.

I literally cannot rate this. It’s amazing. It’s awful. I want to hide the characters away and also smack half of them upside the head for being assholes. So many words/labels/tropes tossed around that SHOULD NOT BE USED, especially without being condemned or acknowledged as harmful. But omg did I devour this. Like in two days. As in: up till the wee hours squinting at my phone screen. As in: immediately had the urge to make myself a jersey for this fake college sports team.

Fair warning this is long

I don’t usually leave reviews on books, but I felt like this one required one. Felt like a “dark fanficition” on watt pad and I don’t think any of the content that required warnings was handled well managing to be too graphic, and horrible described at the same time. If I had not read content warning a head of time for this series’s it would be incredibly distressing and it makes me worried for some of the content warnings I’ve seen for the rest of the series’s
The F slur and R slur really just pop out at you, creating really distressing jump scares. For a series that’s marked as LGBT+ the slur is used very liberally. Along with the fact that the only openly gay character to commit sexual assault and have little to no consequences felt very weird to me and made me hate him. Actually To be fully honest I hated most of the main cast.
I’m willing to give the rest of the series a shot, as this is a favorite series of a close friend, but I’m questioning her taste.
Neil story has promise to be interesting so it has that going for it. Other redeeming qualities include a unique relationship between characters that I hope is done justice, and some really interesting plot set ups. If these pan out throughout the rest of the series it might redeem a small part of this book. In the end I feel very conflicted about the book, with the writing style not being my favorite because of a lack of world building and a confusing and rushed intro to a ton of characters all at once,
I just hope the rest of this series is handled a bit differently.
