Ranking this highly because usually tedious books like this bore me but I was fully engaged whole time! Not too long or in depth, but tells the story of WWII from an interesting POV about drug use, while not taking any blame off Hitler

I'm giving this one an especially high rating because most nonfiction informative books have a slump in the middle where it feels like they're padding things out. I felt like this book was just the length that needed to be and it was very interesting.

I had no idea the Germans were basically on meth the whole time. Very interesting and very enlightening book, showed me a different side of WWII.

Ohler has created a phenomenal piece of work with this book. I think that it is a very unabashed account and interpretation of the many events and documents presented in the book. I was interested in this book from a purely pharmacological stand point but was easily enveloped in the historical accounts that left me curious beyond the last page.

I will say (for me at least) it is dense. Its a LOT of information but it was presented in a very coherent way. Its interesting to see how ironic a lot of what the German Reich did, was directly opposite from what went on behind closed doors. It was almost maddening to see the demise from the very beginning, when they couldn't see it for themselves, yet carried on declaring how superior they were. Denial from the beginning.

Much recommended to people reading for historical or drug use related purposes!!

Just when you thought you had heard/read it all about WWII, this book comes out and tells about the “blitzed” forces behind Blitzkreig. Well researched, disturbing, and fascinating.

Sehr interessantes Thema und gute Recherche. Leider fand ich von Beginn an den Schreibstil ziemlich unangenehm. Ein bisschen weniger populärwissenschaftlich und kürzer hätte es auch sein dürfen.

a little self-righteous and judgy at times, but overall a really excellent insight into all the drug culture of the reich. cocaine chewing gum, track marks on hitler's arms, doctor's wars, meth fueled advancements, meth-ruined sieges

Absolutely amazing book! You couldn't tell it's a translation and it reads more like a thriller than a nonfiction book. The cover made it... interesting to read in public but I found this a fascinating and well-researched read.

This was intriguing and entertaining as a read. I think it was a bit over dramatized for effect of the story line. I also thought it was longer than it needed to be. Often I felt like the details were the same over and over and once I got the picture I was ready for additional information.
