'Fright Time'...a great bargain for a kid like me, 3 horror stories in one volume, but even as a kid I realized they were hit or miss.
'Fright Time #3' was not one that I read growing up, but I figured I'd get at least one that had a neat concept, or even riffed a classic movie.
But all three stories here were pretty gosh darn awful.
We've got "Terror Town": Where, on his brother's paper route, a boy finds out numerous residents are transformed into monsters for a brief time in the morning. Water guns, magic markers and all-too-ready-to-believe-this friends on bikes.
"Kid Willie's Ghost": A minor league baseball stadium is haunted by the ghost of a young fan killed outside. It bothers and maybe sometimes kills local children for reasons that aren't quite clear. Two brothers have a chance to quiet the ghost before he does them in.
"Medal of Horror": A boy overcomes bullying from a ginger swimming teammate and a swimming ghost trying to kill his brother. Chris Crutcher grade stuff, truly.
One of these days I'm going to learn my lesson about the dangers of nostalgia reading.
