The book was alright. I don't have anything bad to say about it, it just didn't interest me like the first book. Hopefully I'll like the next one better.

I did not enjoy this one anywhere near as much as Wicked Lovely. This book is several degrees darker and a bit more twisted. I think I also didn't like the whole Leslie/Niall/Irial relationship (or the characters) as much as I liked the Seth/Aislinn/Keenan storyline. At least this one had Seth in it to keep me going. :D

Overall I'd recomment Wicked Lovely much more than Ink Exchange, although I'd still happily read anything else by Melissa Marr.

Leslie, running from drama and pain in her past, desperately wants a tattoo in order to lay claim to her own body once more. Enchanted/posessed by an image from a special book that her tattoo artist-friend shows her, she is drawn into a world of shadow and emotionless pain when the tattoo connects her to the king of the Dark Court and thrusts her into the precursors of a battle, just simmering under the surface of this new, fantastical world.

I really liked Leslie from the start. But then, just when her story could have become so much more complex, more detailed, the reader was kept at arms length. Instead of working out her 'demons' with her, the book ended just when she gained the insight and control to do so.

That being said, it was a quick read that I finished in one day, so it definitely kept me guessing (and reading.)

Update 8/17/10: Now that I've read the book that comes before this (Wicked Lovelies) I am really confused as to why this book (Ink Exchange) is not considered a companion novel, instead of #2 in the series.

Melissa Marr is starting to be one of my favorite authors! Though I loved Wicked Lovely, Ink Exchange simple took my breath away... Soon I´ll start Fragile Eternity!

This book was darker than the first in the series which suited, since this one focused on the plight of the Dark Court, now that Beira had been overthrown and the Summer King and Queen had found their strength. I'm not sure about the ending though, something about it was unsatisfying. Maybe because it's a side story more than anything else.

I couldn't get into this book. The first book really captured me but this one is boring and forgettable.

Not as good as the first book in the series. I don't know why but I couldn't get into Irial, nor into Leslie, not even Niall. Maybe I was willing to know more about Ashley and Keenan and Seth but this story, even though they appear as secondaries and starts just where the other finished, has nothing to do with the Summer and Winter courts. We discover a new court even though we haven't fully explored what it means to belong to one of those courts.
At some points the story feels rushed and not as well thought as the first one. It might have used a bit more editing.
There are things I liked though. The idea of the bonding tattoo, the female main character
Spoiler not needing to define herself with a boy but rather deciding she wants to be herself.
