Content Warnings

Not sure what to make of this book. I think I give it 2.5 stars, rounded up to 3. It took me forever to read, and I kept waiting for something to happen. The actual "mystery" was not something I cared about.

I’m sure this was a good book. The writing was beautiful and really evoked the time, place, and feel of the novel.

I just don’t care for books where there’s nobody to like nor pull for. I honestly didn’t care what happened to any of the characters so this particular book just didn’t appeal to me.

This is a dark book. But I’m surprised it doesn’t have better ratings because the writing is beautiful.

4/5. Starts slow but slowly picks up speed throughout. In the first 60 pages, I couldn't tell if I was going to like this book at all, but by the last 60 pages, I was completely sucked in. A week-long snapshot of life in a dreary rural Nebraska county. I thought the alternating three-person point of view worked very well in the story. I would have loved to see a map in this book!
