I would give this 3.5 stars. I enjoyed this read although a very sad read. Mia, a wonderful 17 year old who seems to have it all, loses it all in a horrific car accident. Her wonderful parents and brother are killed and she is the only one left for now. She hovers over her life and is deciding whether to stay (live) or leave (die). Her body is broken on an ICU bed and we witness her grandparents, best friend (Kim) and musician boyfriend (Adam) try to get to her and get her to stay. She sees all that happens in her in-between stage and tries to figure out if she has anything left to live for. She is a talented musician (cello) and is about to be accepted at Juilliard. Adam is in a about-to-become-famous band and loves her so much although their future together is uncertain. If she comes back her parents and brother will feel like a hole in her being and is it better to go with them or try to fulfill her life...her destiny? The end of the book prepares you for the sequel has she comes back to her body as she squeezes Adam's hand and his word is 'Mia?'...I'll read the next one as I am curious as to how her life shapes up and what decision she makes.

This book made me nearly cry I'll give it that

So this story is about a girl named Mia whose family gets into a car accident and everyone but her dies and she gets to watch herself in an out of body experience kind of way.

I've seen some reviews say that it tried too hard to be depressing and emotional and stuff but I have to say. I'm quite blown away by it.

I finished this book in one day and couldn't stop thinking about it for the rest of the day. It really makes you appreciate what you have especially when you realize that what you have of your life could just as easily be disrupted.

I found the romance between Adam and Mia endearing as well which is a surprise because I am a cynical person when it comes to YA romance.

The slow realization that she has about Teddy dying was heart wrenching and I had to bite back a sob when I got to that part.

The only reason I've knocked off a star is because of the cheap cliffhanger at the end just so that I'll have to read Where she went because I was going to read it anyways. All together, good for a sobfest.

I když se to četlo rychle a příjemně a bavilo mě to, zařadila bych tuto knihu spíše k průměrným. Spousta zdánlivě nevýznamných maličkostí bylo právě to, co se mi na knize líbilo.

They say that memories come back like a flash when a person is in their deathbed. Scientists have proven that there's still 7 minutes of the human brain working once the human heart stops, and in those 7 minutes you re-live your life again. This novel was so touching, the entire experience how a 17 year old girl (Mia) was so happy in the morning, and by noon is in sock because of a tragedy. I've cried so much during this book, it gives away all life experiences, how to face them, and life goes on. I haven't yet faced a tragic death in my life of a loved one, and I don't want that to happen but that's the life cycle, how life is, it changes you for the better. "That's how we manage to survive loss. Because love, it never dies, it never goes away, it never fades, so long as you hang to it.Love can make you immortal"(Forman 242).

WOW. Gayle Forman certainly knows how to write a novel from a unique perspective. And it makes you wonder: what do comatose patients experience when lingering between life and death? It's touching and thought-provoking on so many levels. What does one do when an accident leaves you in a coma and your entire family has already died? Do you go on with them? Or do you stay? What happens if you stay? What happens if you go?

Mia has to figure this out for herself. She's only seventeen. No matter the outcome, it's definitely life-altering.
