A very easy to read book, not too heavy so not much concentration required.

Having said that, as much as the plot can be believable, it seemed to miss the highs that some books can get. It was a steady constant, which, yes you wanted to find out what happens - but not because you feel any connection to the characters - perhaps this will build as the series continues.
But as i say, i did enjoy reading it - and my concentration is lacking at the moment, so this was perfect.

Connie is used as live bait - for vampires. Shes part of a vampire slayer "team" altho she is the most indispensable. she is sent into almost deadly places to "catch" the vamp and lure it somewhere quiet while Colby, her boss, slays him. The team only go after the vamps that kill - they are hired by those who have proof of the vamp they're after being a killer.

Connie is sent in to lure Rurik out - the Overlord of Budapest.
What she didnt expect was the instant attraction she felt towards him.
But the lure didnt go to plan. Rurik drugged her drink and took her to an "exclusive" party and offered her as a gift to HIS boss - one of the mythical vamps - Nosferatu. But Rurik seems protective of her, and says he wont let anything happen to her, and wont let his boss kill her - warm fuzzies huh!!?

Connie has a tracking chip so Colby and his team storms the party. Connie is helped out and rescued by Rurik.

She bolts as fast as she can to her hotel - being hunted by a vamp that she cant seem to shake. Until he suddenly vanishes. Incentive to run faster, she reaches her hotel and only relaxes when shes in her room.
Rurik appears on her balcony. The butterflies return and he calls her "Rabbit" - in meaning a tasty little morsel.
She feels no threat whatsoever from Rurik. Which confuses her.

She realises she doesnt want Rurik dead.
But will her boss, Colby believe her? Or will he think that its the vampire messing with her mind?
And what if shes wrong? Colby sends her proof, but it doesnt make sense.....
She hasn't had these feelings since the death of her husband a year ago.....
But does Rurik feel the same?
What does the scary vamp Tane want from her?
The story does unfold, revealing all, so i don't want to spoil the rest of the book.

For once, it doesnt leave on much of a cliffhanger, so if you're not keen to carry on reading the series, this, i think, can be read as a stand alone book, and not leave you wondering about any loose ends.

However, me? Im on to the second book already!!

OMG I don't know why I waited so long to read this book. It's been sitting in my iPad for maybe a year now & I just read it. It was so much better than I thought it would be. Absolutely loved it!

It’s Connie Bence’s job to be bait. She works for a powerful mercenary who takes contracts to kill vampires gone bad. Connie works her sensuality to lure vampires to a place where they can be taken out by her team. Connie’s latest mission is to lure Rurik, the vampire Overlord of Budapest, to his demise. But when things don’t go according to plan, Connie is swept into the world of vampire politics and double-dealing. Her employer has solid proof that Rurik is evil, but Connie isn’t so sure. As desire builds between Connie and Rurik, the woman whose job is always to be bait must ask herself – which one of them is predator and which one prey?

The darkened streets of nighttime Budapest are the perfect backdrop for a sexy vampire tale. Sadly, Bait failed to lure me in. Annie Nicholas has all the elements to create an intriguing vampire world, but Bait is bogged down by double-crossings and the heroine’s own confusion. I really wanted to connect with Connie and Rurik, but I just couldn’t do so. There was nothing wrong with either of them, but they never fully came to life for me. I admit to also being distracted by Rurik’s nickname for Connie, Rabbit. For me, personally, this was an element of Bait that did not work.

Ms. Nicholas truly has an interesting concept for her Angler series and if the relationship between Connie and Rurik had been better developed, the pacing a bit faster, and the storyline more fluid, I would have enjoyed Bait. Sadly, this first installment to the Angler series just did not capture my fancy.

If you've been following me for a while, you know I'm not a huge romance person. This is my second romance, and coincidentally, also my second paranormal romance. But I've got acquired some romance books via giveaways, Humble Bundle, Story Bundle, and Amazon's Kindle First giveaways. I am trying to read "all" my books rather than constantly spending money on the next new thing. So I ended up getting to Bait.

Despite the cover, I was pleasantly surprised with the story. Were there romance tropes? Of course! Characters falling in love ridiculously quickly, slap-slap-kiss, non-consensual things (although not noncon sex - so depending on how specific your triggers are...maybe OK?), hot bods, etc. But I thought the story was pretty decent, even if it's a "step backwards" for women compared to, say, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Essentially, our main character is bait to attract vampires so the hunters can slay them. She's been working this for a while, but THIS TIME she's in over her head - both in terms of controlling her sexual attraction and in her job role. I thought Ms Nicholas created a good mythology around the vamps and the battle for power she ended up in the middle of. I also appreciated that, although part of a trilogy, it has a satisfying ending. Also, even though Goodreads has this book listed under Erotica (as well as Romance and other categories), I thought that the sex made sense within the context of the story and wasn't the entire point of the book. In fact, there's just two sex scenes in the entire book and they each last just a few paragraphs. In other words, this isn't sex with a story glued to it. This is a story that happens to have sex.

I think if you like vampires and you like romances, it's an easy recommendation and a relatively easy read.

Not a bad addition to the vampire romantic collection. Connie nice enough as a main character. Not too whiny, not a instant badass but nor surviving on sheer luck. Not to mention the reason why vampires are attracted to her is not just looks. Plot was fast enough not to bore and fairly good story wisr The romance, well not the best but not too bad. Instra attraction but some restraint. I enjoy as a easy read.
