So, I first saw the show and after that I began reading the books. It's really hard to see the two seperate, so this review is gonna be all over the place. Sorry about that.

I LOVE Penelope. Since season 1, she has been my favorite character and I couldn't wait to read this book. In comparison to the show, there were things I liked and there were things I didn't like.

Things I didn't like:
1. The fact that Penelope gave up Lady Whistledown in the book. It's her life work. I don't get why she's not writing Whistledown anymore.
2. The fact that Colin is always hungry for food. Maybe I didn't get the joke, but he's so much more than a hungry boy (no pun intended).
3. Colin is the one who reveals Penelope's secret that she is Lady Whistledown. One of my favorite scenes in the show is that SHE's the one who is in control of telling her secret and story.
4. I missed the fact that Colin calls Penelope Pen. 5. Colin is not very likeable in the book.

Things I did like:
1. The relationship between Penelope en Eloise. Eloise is proud of her for being Lady Whistledown and she feels happy that Penelope is marrying her brother.
2. Hyacinth. I loved her character in this book. I can not wait to read her book one day.
3. The relationship between Lady Danbury and Penelope. That could've been so much more in the show.
4. The carriage scene.

I really liked reading this book, it made me love the show and Penelope even more.

This book is awful. Glorifies treating women poorly and literal physical violence and intimidation.

I absolutely love Penelope Featherington. She is witty, super smart, and so kind. Colin was meh. I was expecting a more intense romance between them since they had a decade of friendship.

this was the worst one so far. easily the worst one. colin is my villain origin story. i hate him. so much. so so so much. penelope deserves so much better than him. the conflict in the second half also felt forced and could’ve been cut so much shorter. . i still love hyacinth and she was the best part of this book. anyways this book is not very good and i hope the rest dont follow in its tracks.

oh also did u mention i hated colin? well i do.
