Can we please get more books narrated by weird old women??? Because of this type of main character, I don't think I've ever read a book quite like this. I'll admit, it did seem kind of slow to me in some parts but, even at these sections, just like with Duszejko's love of astrology, paying attention to the tiniest details is key to figuring out what's going on. I definitely had my suspicions as the book progressed, but I was still glued to the page when everything was revealed.

there aren't enough audacious, passionate, idiosyncratic, philosophical, and simply unhinged older ladies in literature! it was such a delight being in our protagonist's world, despite the astrological jargon completely flying over my head. what a gorgeously written, poignant, atmospheric, story (def would classify this as a character study rather than a thriller, although it was truly a kick when

the final few chapters of the book finally furthered the plot and the unreliable narration!

Favourite read of the year so far, but why? The writing really worked for me: it is restrained, composed, philosophical without being preachy, ambiguous without being too ambitious, funny without being too obvious. The tone, rhythm and narrative construction are extremely fine tuned. The cast of characters is entirely believable, and despite how far away from me they are (in every aspect), they felt familiar and present. And the theme! Un régal.
