Absolutely loved this book. Such a very positive ending. I had been trying to find the A Simple Gift but it isn’t listed anywhere. That’s because it is a short story which is at the end of this book.

An OK premise, but I wish the final moments or the "big reveal" had been more developed.

2.5 stars. Beauty & the Beast with aliens instead of fairy curses. Not a bad version just a little boring.

I really enjoyed this SF version of Beauty and the Beast with quite atmosphere, slow developing plot and romance.

I do love me a beauty and the beast reimagining AND this one has aliens 👏🏻😍 two of my favourite things!!
This reimagining was just adorable, I loved them.
Quick, easy and enjoyable!
Will definitely read this little gem again!!

This book is really hard to review. On the one hand, it reads like Robin McKinley's Beauty set in space, and I mean that very literally. Everything from the plot points to the writing style could be clones of McKinley's book --- just add aliens. And I adore Beauty. Unfortunately, I've read Beauty so many times that such a close repeat was a bit boring --- I knew precisely what was going to happen at all times. So I've given the book four stars, but it would definitely be five stars if I hadn't read the original.

Hmm. Innocuous. I admired how the author found natural-feeling ways to turn this unusual setting into the classic story. Much of it would have made perfect sense plot-wise even if it were an entirely new story idea.

Except, well, instead of being pleased their daughter isn't a slave or being raped, the parents are outraged she's happily married. In a fairy tale meant for children, that makes sense, but not in this context. Also, as some other reviewers mentioned, I wish she had admitted her feelings before she saw his face, after all the original story is not about falling for a beautiful man. Quite the opposite.

There is no explicit sexual content aside from kisses and fade to black. It fits the quiet tone of the piece, the introverted nature of the heroine and the hero's explicit need for privacy. And it was a bit of a relief. The pay off of the story is HEA of the heart and family, not raunchy. I liked that.
