Spencer's run on ASM starts off kind of slow. There's a lot of setup to do as he puts Peter Parker in a much different place than he's been lately. No spoilers but I'm much more ahead of this and a lot of this setup still hasn't paid off, and quite honestly those first few issues made me sit on this series for a lot longer than I thought I would. If you feel the same way at issue 5, I merely suggest you stick with it.

I didn't love how Spencer's run on ASM started, and truth be told he still hasn't paid off a lot of his promises after 12 issues, but volume two is a lot more fun than vol 1. I like what they do with Boomerang and I'm intrigued about where this can continue to go.

Was a decent trade. Art is great and jokes are funny but the second half is far less interesting.

Actually one of the better volumes within the past decade. Really balances out Parker with Spidey. And beautiful art.

I like that comics are porting to Graphic Novels now - I can't keep up with all the titles. And I really can't keep up with everything Spiderman. I'm not a fan with the direction of some of Spidy's titles and have been underwhelmed at times.
I picked up this title because I liked what I saw in a brief flip through. After reading it, I was pretty happy with the story and the artistry.
Without truly knowing where these characters have been in this line, I found that Pete and MJ get back together and Pete is having a bit of trouble with work. We see some cameos and allusions back to what have happened in the world but the focus is on moving forward, which I very much appreciated. I was pleased with the storylines and look forward to picking up the next volume.

I finally decided to give the Brand New Day era of Spider-Man a go and despite some decent parts I just couldn’t bring myself to get into it. Such a massive reversal of the characters core identity replaced with a misguided attempt to make him ‘youthful’ once more. I had to put it down and decided to just jump into Nick Spencer’s run as I knew he brought it ‘back to basics’ (pun intended). Even if he isn’t able to reverse the damage done by One More Day he puts Peter Parker in a position to grow while providing a solid jumping on point for new readers. There’s characters here from previous runs but all in all you don’t really have to know them to get started. I’m not the biggest fan of the art and Mary Jane especially looks off, but frankly we’re all here for the writing which is solid. The main draw of this comic is of course Spencer getting Peter and MJ back together almost immediately and their romance in the book feels so natural as though Marvel hadn’t forced Peter to make a literal deal with the Devil to un-do their marriage. I know Marvel has now got them separated again but hey might as well enjoy things while they last.
