These are classic stories of bravery and exploration. Growing up with the animate version of the main Mowgli story and Rikki Tikki Tavi, reading the actually story brought back fond memories.
The Jungle Book is very clearly a product of their time and British Colonialism and therefore problematic in places.

The Jungle Book includes a few short stories.
The main story is the one we are familiar with from the Disney cartoon. It is of course different and I rather enjoyed it. 4 points

I'll admit, I didn't know this was a collection of short stories rather than one story, but it was a nice little read. I liked some of them better than others, the last one about the different camp animals was by far my least favorite. I also thought some of the stories were kind of intense, and it goes to show some of the horrible things humans do to animals. I feel that was the ongoing theme really, how humans effect animals, which is a worthy cause so I didn't mind. It was just an okay book overall, it didn't blow my mind, but it wasn't awful either and it was pretty quick to get through.
If you're going into this expecting a Disney story, you will be disappointed.

I love the way this reads, it's as though Rudyard Kipling is telling the story directly to the reader, instead of the reader reading it themselves.
I really enjoyed the first three stories in this collection especially (I didn't realise that The Jungle Book was a collection of short stories before reading this!) They were all reminiscent of the Disney film I have grown up with and loved but there were obvious differences which I really enjoyed. It was darker in the way that it was simply honest. I'm so glad I finally picked this up!
