I learned to read with this book. I used to make my Mom reread and reread it over and again and it was the first book I read on my own, probably because I had it memorized by that point.
Update: I just recently reread this with my daughter's boyfriend's son who's four and it still captivated his attention all these decades later which I found absolutely delightful.
The artwork is simple but bright enough that it captured Eli's attention as we turned from page to page following the adventures of the bright orange dinosaur. The story engaged him as he tried to show me how many of the dinosaur's tricks he could do too. Overall it was a fun read with a four-year-old and a joyful trip down memory lane for me.

I loved this book as a child, but that might be because I was called Dani....a cute read.

A great early reader! It's about a little boy befriending a huge dinosaur, leading to them doing tons of fun stuff together. What 5 year old wouldn't love that? It's imaginative enough that my kid kept reading through all 64 pages without wanting to stop except to admire the fun, colorful pictures. I can see why it's a classic.

I must be missing something here. I had heard so much about this one, but I didn't find it all that special. Lots of potential, but nothing came of it...and it was loooong for a first reader.
