Okay, I have a confession. Gargoyles petrify me. Yes, I know this is an irrational fear but I can deal. This book (and series) had me shivering in a good way, which was weird because I usually run screaming in the opposite direction of gargoyles. No matter what. So yeah this was good and now when I look at gargoyles (for the fraction of a second I allow myself before I understand what I'm seeing)
Spoiler I'm going to hope they become sexy protectors at night. I wouldn't say no to a sexy protector even if they were a giant hunk of stone that could crush me to death.

I thought this was an okay read, but I skimmed a lot since much of plot was pretty typical and easily predictable trope-y behavior. The intimate scenes themselves were spicy, and I appreciated Ace's independent attitude, but the hovering protective gargoyles didn't feel like they provided much momentum to character development and the plot. I felt that the dialogue often didn't flow very naturally and was very stilted.

Ace seemed to trip in her heels and while running around in general an awful lot, especially when she shouldn't. She would also often run out alone without backup against supernatural vampires with only the logic that she's a cop and it's her job rather than think of her safety. Why in the world would you open your locked front door, knowing that there were vampires outside, just because you didn't want them to kick it in? *facepalm* Or even going out in general, knowing that vampires were hunting you, and your powerful gargoyle protectors were still stone since it wasn't sunset yet?

Gargoyles as monster hunters, men cursed into becoming monsters because of a woman, and new uncontrolled vampires as evil un-discerning murdering monsters are nothing new (although new vampires eating bones while feeding is certainly different). I didn't feel like there was much new unique material that would make this book stand out from the generic urban fantasy reverse-harem romance.

I will not be reading more books in the series.

So much wrong with this one but am I going to continue? Yep.

This woman says she has "years" of self defense and martial arts training, yet istg she dropped her gun every time she was in a fight, and hardly did more than knee people in the balls. Honestly it was frustrating to read her fighting scenes.

Even more so because she makes the most ridiculous choices in this book. This woman finds out vampires are real by almost being unalived by a swarm of them, and her reaction is to go to a vampire club alone and unarmed (a gun that doesn't work on vamps and that she keeps dropping anyway doesn't count) to investigate even after her gargoyles warn her that she's not prepared to take a vampire out. And then when she's almost unalived AGAIN, she discovers she has powers! And she feels the powers draining her of her energy, so instead of just using them on the vamps right away before they completely exhaust her, she stops to gloat while the powers are still running...until they run out on her.

How is this woman a detective???

But hey, the smut was good.

This is a great new series. I love gargoyles and this book has four. I like that it has normal police work mixed with the paranormal. Ace is a good mc. She doesn't believe in the supernatural but when it literally is at her door she doesn't live in denial for too long. The guys are all fun and interesting. Can't wait to find out what happens next.

Have you ever seen the cartoon gargoyles? The gargoyles meet a detective girl and they helped solve crimes? This is the adult version of that cartoon. Like I couldn't get past how much it was similar, the entire time reading it I kept thinking about Goliath the lead gargoyle in the cartoon he reminded me of one of her winged lovers. I also like the idea how the bad guy was handled. I didn't see that coming and I am looking forward to find out how it all works out.

I liked Ace and the 4 sexy gargoyles are enjoyable to read about. The sex scenes were not overwhelming and are extremely HOT. Sometimes I skim, these I did not. ;) I am interested in seeing what happens and also one of the men she hasn't been intimate with yet. Something is going on with him and I almost can't wait for them to get together. I get butterflies thinking about it.

My only issue, Ace is a detective and she is in the middle of solving an unusual crime when all the gargoyle stuff happens. They all have this feeling they know each other but they don't talk about it because she needs to solve the crime first...Ummmm...4 gargoyles just came to life and now want to protect you because they share a bond with you and you would rather deal with that later? I assume that will be wrapped up in book two, I hope.

Overall, I liked it, I hope more of the connection will be revealed because I get you want to stop the killer but at least spend a few hours figuring out that the hell is going on. I started this book excited to read the next one as soon as I was done until I realized this book just came out and the next comes out in July..damn it! Well at least I don't have to wait long. I am really becoming a big fan of reverse harem. I recommend this one and will let you know how the next is once it's out because I plan to snatch that up as soon as it's released to find out what happens next. :)

Thanks for stopping by to check out my review.

Have a great day and Happy Reading!
