An enjoyable case, i could see the twist coming, maybe not entirely but I guessed the red herring.

I hadn't read any books by this author in the past, so when our local library offered this, I thought I would give it a try. Inspector Salvo Montalbano is absolutely wonderful and so very Italian. He loves a good meal at his favorite restaurant, Enzo's. He constantly fights the corruption that is so part of the Italian system. In this most recent book, Montalbano is investigating a series of burglaries in homes of the wealthy. In the process, he meets Angelica and is mesmerized by her beauty. Even though she is much too young for him and he is being unfaithful to his girlfriend, Livia, he can't help himself. The burglaries keep on coming, and Montalbano begins to despair that he will never get to the bottom of things. But in the end, of course, he does. This was a lot of fun to read. The bonus at the end is a translation of some of the food that Montalbano's housekeeper makes for him.

I'll stick with you until the end, Camilleri, but things have gone downhill.

I enjoyed the book for the mystery although it was a bit lame as was the book really. I much prefer the tv series but pretty sure I’ll pick up another few of these books from time to time

Angelica’s Smile was okay, but not outstanding. Of course, it probably didn’t help that I missed all the Orlando Furioso references, since I’d never heard of it, let alone read it. Once again, Montalbano falls in lust at first sight. Maybe it’s some kind of midlife crisis, he feeling old, she’s attractive, he decides cheating on his girlfriend is an option after all. Meh.

The burglaries themselves are rather interesting, although the criminal is contacting Montalbano directly, which happened in the last book I listened to in this series. Does that actually happen often in real life? I kinda doubt it.

The Sicily setting is fabulous and does often lead to some great food. And I like the general attitude, it’s amusing and clever.

You can find my whole review at Carol's Notebook.
