A brilliant, fascinating book on both the career of lawyer Jeremy Hutchinson and social/cultural life in the twentieth century. I think this is probably one of the best books I’ve ever read about the law and culture, highly highly recommend!

One of my favourite law books I've read!

Not only is it quite humorous in moments, with all the convoluted cases Lord Hutchinson QC got into, but it provides a perspective on several important legal cases of the late 20th century: a sort of glance at the state of society, history and law at the time. I enjoyed the anecdotes, the background explanations of the cases, the transcribed exchanges in court and finally, Jeremy's own statement at the end, as well as some photographs from the times.

Excellent book, would recommend it to anyone interested in criminal law or late 20th century history.

4 / 8 out of 10.

What an enjoyable and insightful read all the more poignant, as I read that Lord Hutchinson passed away several days ago.

Remarkable case stories of landmark court cases in 1960s and 1970s

Recommended.

A must read. A truly fascinating snapshot of not only English legal history during the 1960s and 70s, but of a thoroughly decent man and advocate.

An entertaining and enlightening look at the landmark legal cases that Jeremy Hutchinson was involved in as a defense barrister. Several of the cases have to do with literary and cinematic obscenity or spying and treason.
