It's Dracula. You already know the plot and what he's all about.
Despite being so old a book, I was easily engrossed in what was happening. I think the novel's structure of consisting of journal entries and newspaper articles makes the horror more intrusive and powerful. Dracula himself isn't in it much, really only appearing in the first chunk with Jonathan at his castle and then some parts near the end. Most of the book consists of these group of English people (and Texan) who can't go two seconds without complimenting one another.
Seriously, I wasn't prepared for how wholesome this book was. Half the dialogue is just people going, "[Character name here], I would never think anything cruel of you. I think of our friendship as the most blessed thing to ever happen to me," and so on. It's the most charming social circle I've ever encountered, and I liked how gentlemanly all the men were. They treated Mina with respect and did not look down on her like you might expect they would, given the sexism at the time. Mina has a lot of humanity and depth for a female character, and the same can be said for the male characters for that matter. For as creative as the structure and rules of the vampire can be, it's an ultimately simple conflict. Good vs. Evil. Maybe that's why it's persevered for so long.

What an amazing book! I had shied away from this book for the longest because I was afraid that I would not understand it, but that wasn't the case at all. Definitely a book everyone should read at least once in their life.
