idk i'm a diehard nina lacour fan but this is my least favorite of her books. it started out as a struggle and got better as it went on. i found myself actively confused and disconnected throughout many parts of this book. beautiful writing though, no surprise there.

This was beautiful and heartfelt and heartbreaking. I loved the story and am a bit puzzled as to its location on Romance shelves… it is at times romantic but is not a romance.

I found it to be a bit of a dark, depressing love story that never really hooked me.

Damn.
This book is so beautiful, and moving, and poetic, I instantly fell in love.
However, I do need to note quite a few things.
-I put a hold on this book months ago on Libby simply because Julia Whelan was the narrator
-I went in not knowing anything else
-I mostly listened to this one while washing bottles and doing laundry
-I am FILLED with hormones right now
So with all of that being said, I kept questioning if it was a combo platter of all those factors, or was it really a 5 star? Is it the fact that Julia voice makes everything so profound and perfect, or was the writing that profound and perfect? Is it even fair for me to question?
In the end I’m going with the fact that I loved it, and that’s all that matters.

Beautiful, melancholic novel that I couldn't put down. Full of real life, messy as it is, relationships and people that disappoint, tragedy, beauty everywhere, if you look at it right. Amazing descriptions of cocktails and food that I wish I could go to Yerba Buena and try. A quintessential LA story as well. The only aspect I wish the author had covered a bit more deeply was .

Beautiful but sad story and growth and humans. Read the trigger warnings!

The first half of this book was a bit tedious to get through, and I struggled a bit with the pov switch. But it was all worth it for the end. The last few pages made my heart swell and it was all worth it.

thank u meghan for being my sole source of contemporary fiction. lovely writing and characters and i relate to being a sad lesbian in LA. however their communication made me mad and the fact that they constantly drove from midcity to east LA to long beach without mentioning traffic really took some suspension of disbelief

i feel very….. lukewarm abt this book. there was definitely some beautiful writing in this book. but the plot just didn’t feel like it was ever going anywhere…. significant? also emilie was extraordinarily annoying.
